Working Farm Holiday

Sawyer Lake Adventures has just set up a working farm holiday which we are very excited about… excited because we have added a direct tourism component. By this we mean we get you involved with helping us run our tourism business as well. That means helping maintain nature trails, exploring new areas in the wilderness and much more. Let’s back up a bit, we are getting ahead of ourselves with this excitement.

Sawyer Lake Adventures can offer such a mix since it is what we do. We have a farm with horses and Scottish Highland cattle. We do some of our farm work with the English Suffolk draft horses as well as logging. The farm also has cats and chickens and new additions each year. But also we have the working tourism sector.

With that we have Siberian and Alaskan Huskies that need training all year round. We do need to keep our nature trails maintained and are continuely searching for new areas in the wilderness. We search by canoe, horses, dogs and by foot.

How do you like that for diversity?

Why are we doing this? Why not just sell it as a tourism package? There are several reasons:

  • Some folks do not have the money to pay full fare but love to holiday;
  • Some folks want to get more personally involved with the everyday living of the local people and we would like to share this part of the world with these people in a more relaxed form.

You will be treated as a member of the family being able to get involved with local cultural events just as we do. Your days will be filled with diversity of events with new excitement each morning.

O.K. sounds great so far, but how much is all this going to cost me?

Our charge for the package is 40% of our basic rates. Better yet, we only charge you for the five days of the work week.

We will host a maximum of two people at one time so we can give the attention needed. A great way to explore Saskatchewan, Canada economically. Ideal for folks that are high on life but low on money, and great for students.

Included are lodging, meals, taxes and activities.

Not included is the cost to get to Sawyer Lake’s country home. The most economical way is to take a bus from Saskatoon or Regina at an approximate cost of $90 round trip.

You will be responsible for any entry fee to local events as rodeos , fairs or the like. These are most often very nominal fees.

We must ask that the minimal stay is two weeks so that you can get the real feel of the area and its people and that we can get some value from your acquired knowledge.

Take a look at our website, ask us a few questions, and pack your bags for Saskatchewan.
