Spring Anew: The Emergence of Life April 15 to June 15th
This start of the first season of the year allows us to look at the world with new eyes and our spirit is light. It is with this intention we offer the following package! DAY ONE Arrival at SLA by noon in time for a lunch of in-season spring delights. After lunch your guide acquaints you with area and the activities that you will be involved with. The afternoon is spent going on a relaxing hike around the country home to ease out the jet lag and car legs. This mellow start often allows the guest to get into tune with the pace of nature. Special attention is given to the colourful spring birds that have made their way back and the new plants making their way into the world. The frogs croaking in the background set the stage for a wonderful week ahead. The home-made evening meal is soon before us. Conversation follows, setting the tone for the possibilities ahead; tomorrow we will set further afield! DAY TWO
We may go off to see the fish spawn, journey to a meadow and catch and observe butterflies or pick mushrooms or all of the above. We hope to enjoy lunch over an open campfire. Later in the afternoon we journey back making various stops as the mood moves us. This evening a story teller, local singer or country poet will entertain us. DAY THREE This day has gone to the dogs, well at least the morning. You will get a chance to help harness the dogs and go for a cart ride with our Siberian Huskies. The more adventurous may want to try bike-joring!
After an early dinner we will leave the rest of the evening for flat water canoeing. This is a special time of year to canoe since most of the birds are in brilliant breeding colours and are spectacular to view. Beaver and muskrat activity is high with the osprey and.eagles soaring for prey for their early young. We will stay out past dark (it is okay, I got permission from your mom) so that you can soak in the night sounds and the tranquility it brings. The dark skies show the brilliance of the stars. DAY FOUR Today we set off for our wilderness lodge to take the opportunity to view black bears. The emergence of spring lures them from their winter dens in search of food. Viewing is done from a double treestand which allows for great photo possibilities.
DAY FIVE We spend the morning hiking as deep into the forest as you care to go for a morning. Interpretation along the way will further bring alive the area through which you trek. We may have a packed lunch in the forest if the weather allows, that is our preference to again appreciate the spring sounds and smells. A rest after lunch renews our energy to prepare for another night in a bear stand (different one) we need to take advantage of their early focus for food. Later in the year they get much harder to view. We let the frogs be our guide, the stopping of their singing tells us the bears are near. Comical at times in their actions, we have respect for their speed and curiousity. Your safety is our first priority so that you can observe in peace. DAY SIX After a hearty breakfast we head out for your last hike to show you several special corners of our area to give you life long memories of this diverse and unique area. After lunch we say goodbye. We enjoyed your company. Safe travels home. Certain photographs used by permission of the copyright owner(s). Site maintenance and hosting by UncommonSense. |
