Weekend Logger

Take a step back in time to a traditional horse logging operation.

Experience the outdoors.

Experience Saskatchewan.

FRIDAY EVENING

Your arrival at Sawyer Lake Ecolodge is welcomed by a warm fire and hospitable hosts. Settle in and relax. (Supper is available, depending on your arrival time.)

SATURDAY

After a hearty breakfast guests tour the camp of Sawyer Lake Adventures, then board a horse drawn logging sleigh and arrive at the sustainable woodlot. After the intentions of the operation are fully explained you begin your weekend adventure. Tree selecting begins as you learn the different species of trees available for harvesting. With selections made, you learn the art of falling a tree with an axe or cross cut saw.

A stop for lunch includes a warm fire and a hot cup of tea to warm the discussions. After lunch, you begin the task of limbing or perhaps a bit of horse skidding. The stimulating smell of spruce fills the air as the newly cut timber is prepared for sawing.

As you ride the sleigh back to the Ecolodge, you feel exhilarated by the new experiences of the day. Supper and sleep are yours to have.

SUNDAY

A wholesome brunch is served to begin the day. Time is spent socializing with the sled dogs, Annie, Rusty, Mubok, Outlaw, Misty, Tracker and Jade. Today you will return to a previously logged area by dog team. Discussion will be held about the rejuvenation of the boreal forest and the sustainability of a horse logging operation. The dogs will take you back to the Ecolodge through the winding trails of the boreal forest.

You end your weekend with a late afternoon lunch and a collection of memories of being a weekend logger.
