About Sawyer Lake Adventures

Sawyer Lake Adventures is a four season nature-based tourism operation specializing in the interpretation of the Parkland and Boreal ecoregions. We explore the wonderful countryside by the four traditional modes of travel: horse, dog, canoe and on foot. We prefer to work with individuals or in small groups up to six people so we can better serve our guests.

There seems to be a lot of confusion in the world right now about tourism types and terms. Responsible tourism, ecotourism, sustainable tourism, nature tourism, alternative tourism, adventure tourism, learning vacations... have I missed any? Several, no doubt.

Sawyer Lake Adventures is a certified ecotourism company. We were certified in 2001 by the organization now known as the Saskatchewan Nature and Ecotourism Association. In 2003 Sawyer Lake Adventures won the Land of the Living Skies award for conservation. We believe both of these awards indicate recognition for our lifestyle commitments. We believe we must operate in a manner that is sustainable; in an eco-friendly fashion in order to continue with our business through the years in a way of which we can be proud.

Have we scared you away with all this "green talk"? We do not mean to sound like we’re preaching, but we do want you to know we make an honest effort to give respect to the earth we live on.

We acknowledge any type of tourism is consumptive. We try to minimize it within reason. In the process, we also strive to make your trip fun. Yes, good old fashioned fun, often overlooked in our busy and stressful environment.

Here is our Mission Statement:

To provide a fulfilling nature-based experience for our guests that is both educational and enjoyable to the degree that it will be a life-long memory.

Principles:

  • To continue to explore and understand the local ecosystems and monitor any changes

  • To only perform any activity if it is sustainable and eco-friendly

  • To have a better understanding of local history and how it relates to the present

  • To involve the community as participants in the sustainabilty of the ecoregion

  • To share our region of Saskatchewan with the rest of' Saskatchewan, Canada and the world with a sense of mutual respect and enjoyment.

We hope that our mission meets with your expectations for your planned excursion. Try us... we believe you will not be disappointed.

Sawyer Lake Adventures has two locations. Our Wilderness Lodge (top right photo) is located near Sawyer Lake approximately 35 miles north-east of Preeceville, Saskatchewan, Canada.

The lodge is on the southern edge of the Porcupine Provincial Forest in the boreal forest. Our Country Home (bottom photo at right) is located seven miles north-west of Preeceville in the Parkland ecoregion.

The tours we offer are based in one of these locations, or a combination of both.

One category is named Specialty Tours because they focus on one main activity, but true to our "nature" (pun intended) many other activities are involved by default because nature evolves as she wishes.

The other category, Diverse Nature Tours, is a collage of many activities often taking advantage of the season. We will go at a pace comfortable to you, and often surprise you throughout the week by the many new experiences you'll enjoy!

About Your Guide

David Weiman, Nature Interpreter and Guide

David has, throughout his life, combined professional work with a personal love for the Boreal and Parkland regions.

A specialist in renewable resource technology, he left a career as a conservation officer to open an outdoor adventure store, but soon found he needed to be in the real outdoors again.

Thus, Sawyer Lake Adventures evolved providing you the opportunity to explore and appreciate the Parkland Boreal Forest. David brings familiarity with these ecosystems, and his enthusiasm introduces you to its magic.

"These regions never fail to intrigue me. Allow me to share its mystery with you."
